It’s going to be a funky dance party Saturday when Brooklyn’s Pimps of Joytime combine forces with the Bay Area’s Afrolicious.

The Pimps of Joytime play in the Crystal Bay Casino’s Crown Room at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 10. Afrolicious opens and Midtown Social plays the Red Room after-party. Tickets are $23 in advance or $25 on the day of the show.

Encompassing soul, funk, dance and pop music, the Pimps of Joytime’s sound has been making concertgoers move and groove since 2006. Featuring original samples and dual female vocalists over a blend of modern dance and classic funk, the Pimps are well known for their ability to keep a crowd in motion.

“At our core, the Pimps of Joytime are not just dance music,” lead vocalist and guitarist Brian J said on the group’s Facebook page. “My first vocal mentor was a doo-wop singer, so I have a longtime love affair with vocal harmonies.”

Along with Brian J, Pimps of Joytime is Mayteana Morales (vocals, percussion), Kim Dawson (vocals, percussion), David Bailis (bass, sampler) and John Staten (drums). This lineup recently solidified after several years of touring the country with a rotating cast.

The band regularly tours the United States, appearing in recent years at music festivals such as Outsidelands, Bonnaroo and High Sierra Music Festival.

Afrolicious made its own appearance last summer at High Sierra, packing the Vaudeville Tent on the opening afternoon and getting the crowd dancing for the first of three days fun, as the Plumas County Fairgrounds transformed into a campgrounds filled with festy folks and happy hippies.

“I just love how music makes me feel,” offered Afrolicious frontman Pleasuremaker from the San Francisco-based party band.  The fans chanted back the mantra. Expect more of the same  Saturday night at Crystal Bay.
