Dust off your dancin’ shoes, the Red Room will be hopping this weekend at Crystal Bay Casino.
On Friday, The Magic Beans bring their space funk, groove grass and Ameritronica from Nederland, Colorado. On Saturday, The Last Revel will deliver some front-porch Americana from the budding music scene in the Upper Midwest.
Both shows are free for those 21 and older. Music starts at 10 p.m.
The Magic Beans are Scott Hachey on electric and acoustic guitars and vocals, Chris Duffy on bass, Casey Russell on keyboards, synthesizer and vocals, and Jason Kincaid on drums. Think jam band for these boys — “music that moves you… and your booty.” Influences include the likes of the String Cheese Incident, Leftover Salmon, Railroad Earth, Phish and the Grateful Dead.
“The Magic Beans are a band sprouted from the cultural island of Colorado that are set out to bring their unique, genre-blending music to the masses and inspire good times,” their online biography says.
Listeners can expect “a danceable ode to funk, bluegrass, Americana, livetronica, world, prog and more.” Formed in 2010, the band has performed more than 400 shows across the country. It hosts the annual Beanstalk Music Festival in Colorado, attracting regional, national and international acts.
“Seamlessly combining traditional genres with modern dance music, The Magic Beans strive to be original and expressive to the modern music lover,” its bio says.
From Ameritronica on Friday to more-traditional Americana on Saturday, The Last Revel is a trio of multi-instrumentalists — Lee Henke, Ryan Acker and Vincenzio Donatelle. Formed in 2011 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the band “so naturally blends the genres of folk, rockabilly, old-time string band and rock to create a sound that is as equally original as it is timeless.”
The trio combines acoustic guitar, upright bass, fiddle, five-string banjo, harmonica, kick drum and three-part vocal harmonies to consistently deliver “bombastic live performances, as well as delicate and haunting folk ballads.”
