It’s a perfect day to get funked up.
Big Sticky Mess, a Davis funk band, will dish out the tunes and Tahoe Blue Vodka will provide the spirits on Sunday during the final leg of the Triple Crown of Bartending competition at Steamers Bar and Grill, 2236 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
Big Sticky Mess makes a habit of pumping the college-town crowds with “funk music that you can feel in yo’ booty.” Members Jonny Blaze, Sassy Pat and Dr. Juan Carlos, PhD, have played in various Davis Funk bans, including Seamoose, Jordan’s Beard, Tha Dirt Feel, Sex Funk and Danger.
“We had so much fun funking up the beach at Live at Lakeview (Aug. 13) that we’re coming back to South Lake this Sunday…” the band posted on its Facebook page. The group opened for the Polyrythmics two weeks ago.
Today, bartenders will unveil Cocktail Concoctions at the event from noon to 4 p.m., vying for a $500 cash purse. The competition will raise money to Keep Tahoe Blue, benefiting the League to Save Lake Tahoe. For $10, those 21 and over can sample 10 cocktails
“This will undoubtedly be the toughest competition of the entire series,” promised promoter Mike Peron of FNCTN Music. “In the past, bartenders have been able to draft up a specialty recipe and hone their skills prior to arriving, but this time there are some major surprises in store for them.”
Tahoe Blue Vodka will be the main ingredient, but mixologists will be presented with surprise ingredients upon arrival and then must create a drink out of the blue.
Big Sticky Mess will perform outdoors on Steamers’ patio. “Sunday is Funkday,” the band notes.
