Randy Scoles and Jeff Montgomery return to Vinyl Saturday with the Greg Golden Band.

Pablo Cruise drummer Steve Price will make a guest appearance with the Greg Golden Band on Saturday in Vinyl at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

The Greg Golden Band has a penchant for the harder side of the classic rock sound, while Pablo Cruise became popular with catchy album-rock tunes in the 1970s with hit songs such at “Find Your Place in the Sun” and “Whatcha Gonna Do?”

“Steve Price is a super pro with a flowing style,” Golden said. “He plays a hair softer than what we usually do. We will mix it up (Saturday) with some lighter songs.”

For most of the show regular drummer Steve Brown will be at the drum kit, accompanied by guitarists Golden, Jeff Montgomery, dual lead singers Paul Holdgate and Randy Scoles and bassist Larry Hart.

“I love this band,” Golden said. “They are pros. Not just in their playing, but there is no drama. It’s a breath of fresh air.”

Last weekend, the Greg Golden Band played a sold-out Pistol Pete’s Brew & Cue in Auburn, California. Onstage guests included Price, bassist Brad Lane of Y&T and Frank Hannon, the Tesla guitarist who is working Golden’s second album, tentatively slated to be released in September.

“Frank and I need to work out small details,” Golden said. “It will be a little heavier than the last album. We are playing three songs live that will be on the album.”

The Greg Golden Band has a busy summer planned. Among its 21 shows, three will be shared with renowned rock groups: Y&T, Great White and .38 Special.

The Reno-based band plays more shows at Tahoe than it does in its hometown. It plays in Vinyl about once a month and it utilizing the venue’s big screen to play concert videos from 8:30 p.m. until 9 when the band takes the stage.

Golden, the owner of Bizarre Guitar, has sold gear to numerous musicians over the past few decades. Although Prince was not one of them, Golden did see him perform in Reno. Prince died Thursday at the age of 57.

“He was one of most talented overall musicians in the world,” Golden said. “It will never be the same without him. He was one of those musicians who could play guitar, drums and bass and do it in any style.”
