The first Hard Rock show was shortly after the release of the self-titled “Greg Golden Band” album, produced by Frank Hannon, a solo artist who also fronts the Sacramento band Tesla. Since the album’s release, one of its songs, “Far Away,” has become a radio hit. It is sung by Randy Scoles, who will appear with the band in Tahoe on Friday. Paul Holdgate, the band’s other lead singer on the album, appeared at the Vinyl show in April.

In a review, Tahoe Onstage’s Spencer Kilpatrick wrote, “ ‘Far Away’ blazes through that intersection between arena rock and glam metal at top speed, without bothering to look for oncoming traffic. It is everything that the Greg Golden Band signifies; big guitars, soaring vocals and power drumming. Scoles has authoritative pipes like Sebastian Bach or Vince Neil, while Golden lays down a super heavy riff. The song is the catchiest on the album and a surefire headbanger.”

The song also grabbed the attention of Tahoe Onstage’s Garrett Bethmann, who, in a review of the first Hard Rock show, wrote, “ ‘Far Away’ roared like a battle cry and felt as if it had been born a Bad Company and REO Speedwagon lovechild.”

Galaxia, a European online radio station lists “Far Away” to be among the top 20 rock releases for in 2015. The Greg Golden Band is on a list of artists that includes Tinsley Ellis, Randy Bachman and the Dead Daisies.

Golden is the owner of Bizarre Guitar in Reno. He has been playing guitar since he was 7 years old.

“We’ll do eight songs off the album and some good blues-rock covers as well,” he said.

Another Hannon-produced Golden record is in the works.

“It will be another 10-song album,” said Golden, who said four of the tunes have already been recorded and include contributions from drummer Kenny Aronoff, who has played with everyone from Chickenfoot to the Smashing Pumpkins.
