Heroes who saved our homes will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Members of the Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department are the honored guests at a concert and barbecue at the Kirkwood Community Association’s recreation center. The poolside event will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

The 221,775-acre Caldor Fire spread dangerously close to Kirkwood on Highway 88. It is 93 percent contained.

Cliff Porter, a renowned singer-drummer bandleader from Reno, will perform a solo set, along with a full band set with Jelly Bread. Dave Berry, who co-founded Jelly Bread more than a decade ago, will join Porter for a duo set, as well. The music is wide ranging, from R&B to roots and – with Berry’s slide guitar – twangy Americana. Live painting by mohawked tattoo artist Lola Quinn will be performed.

Beverages will be available for purchase.

The fundraising event has sold out.
