FNCTN combines two venues for winter music series

FNCTN-POSTERConjunction Junction, what’s your FNCTN? FNCTN Productions is a South Shore promotional group which will present music this winter at Xhale Lounge AND Lake Tahoe Golf Course.
Xhale Lounge, a subterranean Stateline Casino Corridor venue, will feature electronic and DJ shows and the clubhouse at Lake Tahoe Golf Course, located in South Lake Tahoe just east of Meyers, will have live rock and funk performances. Each venue has a capacity of more than 200.

FNCTN Winter Music Series shows will be held every other Friday night from Jan. 9 through April 17.

Doors open at 8 p.m. and the cover charge is $10. Birthday celebrants have free entry.

Vice Versa headlines opening show in the renovated nightclub and former Raw Bar underneath the old Bill’s Casino. Zebuel, which is North Shore DJ-producer Zebuel Early, will also perform. Roger That will open.

The first show at Lake Tahoe Golf Course will be Jan. 23 with Forrest Day. Named after the quintet’s lead singer, Forrest Day is a San Francisco rock band that describes its music as “American Alternative Pop Psychosis.”

The opening band, Big Sticky Mess from Davis, Calif., is rather crazy, as well.

“They wear silly, goofy outfits and sing hysterical lyrics over a fun beat and you can’t help but dance,” said Leslie Schultz, a founder of the FNCTN triumvirate. The others are Nick Rogers, aka Roger That, and Mike Peron.

The long-running animated educational Saturday morning program “Schoolhouse Rock!” took liberties with English by using punctuation in its name, clearly an old-school technique. FNCTN, a derivative of today’s character-concise generation of texts and tweets, locked the caps and left the vowels out of function.

Schultz, in a press statement, said, “Thanks to the strong support from our event partners including Redbull, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Inn by the Lake, Lake Tahoe TV, Powderhouse and Tahoe Onstage you’ve got a winter full of incredible music to look forward to.”

The series originally was to be held at the Himmel Haus, next to Heavenly Mountain Resort. Permit issues with the city caused the organizers to change venues.
