Bruno Mars will play at Lake Tahoe this summer.

The red-hot pop star with five Grammy Award nominations will perform Aug. 14 at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys, according to the artist’s website. The Stateline show as listed on North American Summer Tour 2014, which begins April 18 in Mars hometown Honolulu.

A second outdoor concert also has been announced. Journey and the Steve Miller Band will play on Wednesday, July 30. Tickets ($59.50-$199.50) go on sale Feb. 7.

Mars, a 28-year-old singer with a tenor vocal range often compared to Michael Jackson, will be the halftime performer at this year’s Super Bowl. Tickets go on  sale the day after the big game, Feb. 3.

“Locked Out of Heaven” is up for a Grammy for Song of the Year and “Unorthodox Jukebox” is nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Record of the Year.

Jan. 15’s announcement was a surprised to local organizers.

“We were going to announce the day after the Super Bowl but I guess they wanted tickets to go on sale the day after the Super Bowl,” said Director of Entertainment John Packer. “We are thrilled to open our summer series announcements on such a high note. It’s a big deal.”

Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster and Another Planet Productions beginning at 10 a.m. Monday Feb. 3. Prices range from $69.50 to $135.50.

Two more shows are in negotiation, Packer said.

“We have … more but I can’t announce them,” Packer said. “No hints.”
