Big, bold bluegrass on a Thursday night in Crystal Bay

Hackensaw Brothers
After dark it’s time for the Hackensaw Brothers in the Crystal Bay Casino Crown Room

Keeping Tahoe bluegrass and affordable, the Hackensaw Boys return to the Crystal Bay Casino tonight for a free show in the Crystal Bay Casino Crown Room.

As part of “Silver Bullet Thursdays,” Coors Light and Redds Apple Ale are $2.

The seven members are natives of Charlotttesville, Virgina.

According to the Hackensaw website, “Everybody sings a bit of lead, everybody sings a bit of harmony and most members know when to shut up. Instrumentation includes banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, upright bass, charismo (a homemade tin can contraption) and the occasional trap kit.”

The band with a large hoedown sound was formed more than a decade ago and it has toured the U.S., U.K, and Europe several times. It has several albums, including “For the Love of a Friend,” released in April.

The Hackensaw Boys have toured with the Flaming Lips, Cracker, Modest Mouse, Camper Van Beethoven, the Detroit Cobras, Cake, Railroad Earth, Cheap Trick and De La Soul.
