It seems like throughout the summer months, there is no lack of large events taking place throughout Reno. However it’s when the season changes that possibly the booziest and most DIY feeling of the annual events takes place – OffBeat Music Festival.
Reno’s answer to larger multi-venue, multi-day festivals such as Austin, TX’s SXSW, OffBeat – now in its eighth year – brings over three dozen performers and groups spanning widely across musical and geographical spectrums to several Midtown bars and venues.
Taking place this year from October 5th-8th, band’s like the Bay Area’s garage rockers Shannon And The Clams to Los Angeles psych cumbia three-piece Tropa Magica to the Netherlands’ rhythm-and-reverb drenched Iguana Death Cult to Washington State’s power indie rockers The Shivas will grace stages at seven different venues.
OffBeat’s organizers always make a point of highlighting Reno’s own local bands. This year’s event will have the Devo-esque artcore of Clarko, the catchy skate punk of Last One Down, Pixies-influenced Bug Bath, americana-leaning Buffalo Moses And His Ex Wives, and groove heavy Drinking With Clowns. Former Renoite (and Tahoe Onstageite) Spencer Kilpatrick & the Sand Gators will open the event Thursday night at Cypress Reno.
In addition to the usual contributors, such as The Holland Project‘s all ages programming which will include playing film shorts, and Eastern Nevada’s Schellraiser Music Fest will display their name across the Loving Cup’s stage.
Attendees have the option to choose from 3 Day VIP wristbands to single day passes to paying at the door for each individual show (provided there is still space inside).
Complete options and schedules can be found at OffBeatReno.com and updates can be found through the music fest’s app or by following their social media channels.
