When Brooklyn’s high-energy funk and soul quintet Pimps of Joytime teams up with the Portland, Oregon’s MarchFourth, it feels like the circus is in town. Such was the case Friday, March 10, at the Crystal Bay Casino.

In addition to Lake Tahoe, the musicians funked up some of the coolest cities on the West Coast: Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Bend and San Francisco.

The MarchFourth Marching Band, which recently celebrated its 14th anniversary, is a giant performance art and music troupe, which includes stilt-walkers, acrobatics and hoops.

“It’s intense,” said Brian Jay, Pimps of Joytime’s bandleader.

“It’s a lot of energy and it’s been awesome,” Jay said. “They (MarchFourth) are such a spectacle and are musically great, too. So there’s been a great reaction.”
