It was a snowy winter evening outside when Lettuce took the stage inside the Crystal Bay Casino’s Crown Room to a sold out crowd.
Lettuce combine jazzy chords over their blend of funk, rock and psychedelic elements that make up the six-piece group’s music. The band’s horn section and keyboards add some spice to their improvisational sound, and on this night the group’s flow kept everyone dancing and smiling throughout the evening.
“Thank you for being here and listening,” Adam Smirnoff the lead guitar player said to welcome everyone early in the evening.
As songs progressed, Smirnoff’s guitar would lead while Eric Bloom on trumpet and Ryan Zoidis on sax, would jump in to fill out the grooves. The group’s drummer, Adam Deitch, held the backend with drum solos, as Smirnoff and bassist Erick Coomes kept a danceable hook worming through all.
The Crown Room audience was treated to two sets by the band. A few even brought heads of lettuce there to show their excitement for the evening. Playing 16 songs in all, the group closed out their funky improvisational set with a cover of Keni Burke’s “Risin’ To The Top.”
