Leftover Salmon thaw out in a Lake Tahoe

On Friday March 15th Leftover Salmon returned to Crystal Bay Casino’s Crown Room stage to perform another memorable party for the Road To WonderGrass concert.

Leftover Salmon is based out of Boulder, Colorado, and on the day they were leaving to start their current tour, mother nature had other plans for them, with heavy snow making moving about very challenging. Andy Thorn, the band’s banjo wiz, described how the only way to get his instruments and suitcases to the main road so he could leave was to drag them through the snow with the help of a sled. However difficult this was for him and the other band members, they were determined to get to the airport and stated how happy they were to be in sunny Lake Tahoe enjoying our springtime weather.

Leftover Salmon did not disappoint anyone this evening with two sets of music which kept everyone smiling and moving. They started with “Sing Up to The Moon”, “Booboo”, “Gulf of Mexico” and “Rocky Road Blues” for starters, as they have quite the extensive catalog of tunes to choose from. When they played “Troubled Times,” Drew Emmitt did a mandolin solo, punctuated by Andy Thorn joining in with a banjo solo.

All together there were 11 instruments on stage making appearances throughout the set, as the six band members traded between numerous instruments. Between the mandolin, banjo, Dobro, washboard,
violin, guitars, keyboards and percussion, each musician put their impressive talent on display with the crowd receiving the music in stride.

As always with Leftover Salmon, the two set show came to an end with an enthusiastic audience left hollering for more. Here’s hoping for the band to return this way again soon.
