Drop Theory’s powerhouse funk

Drop Theory

Reporter’s notebook: The Truckee band Drop Theory opened a show Feb. 20 for the Houston band the Suffers. The high-engery show set the tone for a fun night of funk. Drop Theory’s songs rode a tight backbeat while intermixing funky rhythm guitar and jazzy saxophone. Their sound is reminiscent of The Greyboy Allstars’ boogaloo funk and they electrified the crowd with choice covers of funk powerhouse Lettuce and groove icons Jamiroquai. — Garrett Bethmann
