TAHOE CITY — The June 22 kickoff to the Concert at Commons Beach music was bittersweet. It was the first Commons Beach show where North Lake Tahoe’s beloved music mastering and well-loved sound man, Blake Beeman, was not there. Blake passed away a few weeks ago and is off journeying elsewhere. We love you Blake.
The Roemers, a family band from the Lake Tahoe’s West Shore, opened the show. A six-piece band well followed by Tahoe locals, with originals and covering favorites from classic rock to the blues. Talent runs in this family and the crowd loved them. The sun was shining, a slight breeze was blowing and there was dancing and laughing and a crowd that was being pleasantly pleased.
Following a short break, Afrolicious, a dance fusion band based out of San Francisco, took the stage and took hold of the crowd. Founded by the brothers Joe “Pleasuremaker” McGuire and Oz “Senor Oz” McGuire, this band has groove and funk and soul and so much talent, and the ability to make you smile as you dance the afternoon away on the shores of Lake Tahoe.
A wonderful afternoon with a wonderful group of musicians and a wonderful group of concert goers, Concerts at Commons Beach is the best way I know how to spend a Sunday afternoon. I know where I will be next Sunday. I hope to see you there.
