Tahoe music lovers had better get ready for a percussive performance of world rock music when Rusted Root hits Crystal Bay Casino Friday night.
A hit international act, Rusted Root has appeared with artists such as Santana, Dave Matthews Band, the Allman Brothers Band, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.
Formed in 1990, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania band achieved mainstream success with the 1994 album “When I Woke.” The record went platinum and it included the well-known single “Send Me on My Way,” which has appeared prominently in film, television and advertising.
Rusted Root is Michael Glabicki (guitar, harmonica), Patrick Norman (bass, percussion), Liz Berlin (percussion), Corey Caruso (percussion) and Dirk Miller (guitar). Glabicki sings lead vocals, with the rest of the group contributing backing vocals.
Rusted Root’s sound is an upbeat, world-infused pop-rock; passionate group vocals and a wide variety of percussion ensembles drive soulful songs that span an extensive range of musical genres, often drawing on spiritual references and themes.
“I am very inspired vocally by anything from Indian to African to Middle Eastern sounds and scales having grown up with a lot of Hebrew music” Berlin said on the band’s website.
Rusted Root’s most recent album was 2012’s “The Movement.” Intended as a celebration of the group’s fans, the album was partly supported by a crowd-funding effort.
“The title itself is a testament to the community surrounding our music,” Berlin said on the site.
The group is committed to raising awareness about environmental issues. In 2015, Rusted Root played at Freedom from Fracking: Clean Air, Water, & Energy, a Pittsburgh music festival, as well as contributing on “Buy this Fracking Album,” a compilation benefit release.
Reno funk and soul band Mojo Green will be playing an after-party in Crystal Bay Casino’s Red Room after the show.
