Craving some mid-week, tripped-out, improvisational rock? Crystal Bay Casino has you covered, with Papadosio playing the Crown Room on Wednesday, March 2.
Formed in Athens, Ohio, in 2006, Papadosio is Anthony Thogmartin (guitar, keys, vocals), Billy Brouse (keys, vocals), Mike Healy (drums), Rob McConnell (bass) and Sam Brouse (keys, vocals). The band now resides in Asheville, North Carolina.
Papadosio’s eclectic style covers a wide array of genres, with acoustic and electric guitar driving a swirling psychedelia of sound. Extensive onstage improvisation is Papadosio’s calling card, with influences on the group including Jethro Tull, Yes and Genesis.
“We like to have a lot of colors,” the band says on its website. “We’re starting to push that envelope in the way we want to go; to give the people who are at the shows more of a variety of emotions. We don’t have filters. We record what’s happening.”
The group released its most recent album, “Extras in a Movie,” in October 2015; the 16 original tracks were inspired by everything from archaeological cave-paintings to musings on the problems of the world.
The band plays about 150 shows a year, with performances at Aura Music and Arts Festival, Werkout Festival, and Resonance Music Festival, among many others.
Papdosio has an upcoming array of spring shows around the United States, including appearances at House of Blues in San Diego, Dallas and Houston with New Orleans prog-funk band Earphunk. The rock group also will be appearing at the Fillmore Charlotte in North Carolina in March, and at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado in May.
Hawaiian electronic artist Bluetech will be opening for Papadosio in the Crown Room Wednesday.
