FNCTN will close out funky.

An every-other-week winter concert series concludes Friday at Lake Tahoe Golf Course with a year-old Bay Area band which has never before played at Lake Tahoe.

“We saved our hidden gem for the end and I truly think everyone will be surprised with NuRelix; they give a modern touch to an old school flavor,” said Nick Rogers, one of the FNCTN Productions’ triumvirate.

The band began as an acoustic duo, guitarist Anthony Bush and singer percussionist Carter Laos.

“Then (singer) Michael Brown joined in the band and once he came into the mix it was like adding nitro glycerin into it,” Bush said. “It just exploded.”

The rhythm section is bassist Jessie Strauss and drummer Phil Byers. Sean Griffin plays guitar.

Influences include Curtis Mayfield, Michael Jackson and James Brown.

“We try to keep it funky,” Bush told Tahoe Onstage. “We try to keep the heads bobbin’ and keep the people on the dance floor.

NURELIX“We are a very socially conscious band. Our songs have a very strong message where we try to leave people thinking besides dancing. Everyone on the band is pulling from that old school vibe. We do have a couple of things from more of the rock side but we’re all coming from the same place musically.”

South Shore-based 4 Piece Puzzle opens the show at 8:30 p.m. Formed in 2010, the red beans and rice inspired band includes Ryan “Riff” Cassidy (guitar), Martin Bush (drums), Chad Laurence (bass) and Andy Hatch (saxophone).

The inaugural FNCTN Winter Music Series featured live music at Lake Tahoe Golf Course and EDM at Xhale Lounge in the Casino Corridor.

“We’re all so grateful for the strong support this community has shown us during our first music

series,” organizer Leslie Schultz said in a press statement. “What started as a fun side project among friends has developed into a successful series the FNCTN crew intends to continue. We have some exciting projects in the works for summer that we know Tahoe will be excited about.”
