The expanded Crown Room is conducive to Galactic shows.

The New Orleans band with a huge sound sold out the Crystal Bay Casino’s Crown Room for the fourth-straight time on Feb. 12. The Crown Room expanded last summer to a capacity of 750, and Galactic was one of the first bands to sell it out. This time, ascending Joshua Tree artist Gene Evaro Jr. opened the show. Joy and Madness played the after-party in the Red Room.

The only thing quiet about Galactic is its laboratory. The funky mad scientists with New Orleans sensation are famous for reinventing themselves. But since singer Erica Falls has joined the band, reinvention – at least for its three shows at Lake Tahoe — has been put on hold.

She and trombonist Corey Henry are not officially listed as band member but they again are both with Galactic on its winter tour.

Formed in 1996, Galactic is Robert Mercurio on bass, Stanton Moore on drums, Jeff Raines on guitar, Rich Vogel on keyboards, Ben Ellman on saxophone and Corey Henry on trombone. It serves a New Orleans gumbo of soul, hip-hop, rock and electronic stylings.

Here are all of Larry Sabo’s photos from the show.
