The Red Rocker will make his annual summer pilgrimage to Lake Tahoe on Fourth of July weekend.

Sammy Hagar and The Circle, featuring Vic Johnson on guitar, Michael Anthony on bass and Jason Bonham on drums, will appear at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys. Tickets are $69.50 plus fees and all are general admission.

Independence Day is typically the wildest of holidays in Tahoe, and with Hagar and crew heading here things will be just a little crazier. Thousands of Red Heads flock to town for Hagar’s shows, and thousands more already will be in Lake Tahoe to celebrate the nation’s birthday. Fireworks are guaranteed. An after-party will continue well into the next morning at Cabo Wabo Cantina Lake Tahoe.

Get ready for some Rock Candy. Hagar’s oldest son, Aaron, lives on the South Shore, and it is certain that the Red Rocker Can’t Drive 55 en route to Tahoe. Keep clear on Highway 50.

Sammy has two sons and two daughters. His parenting secrets?

“Oh, I’m big fun,” the Red Rocker told Rolling Stone magazine in an interview published this week. “I wrestle my kids and tease my kids and goof off all the time. But I’m really stern, and my wife is even more stern. If you lie to me and I find out, you’re gonna get punished worse than if you just told me the truth and it was something that really pissed me off. They don’t lie to me, so they’re afraid to do things that they’re going to have to tell me about. It’s a real interesting way to raise kids without having to use the iron fist.”

Hagar turns 70 in October. He shared how that feels with Rolling Stone writer Andy Greene:

“Fucking out of sight, man. If I’d have known when I was 30 that things would be like this at 70, I wouldn’t have been so worried. Not that I was worried, but you get insecure and go, ‘Ah, I wonder what I’m gonna do when I’m 60. What if I have to go back to work or something?’ Piece of cake, man. I can sing as good and play guitar as good as ever. I’m functional…”

Does he plan on slowing down any time soon? Don’t bet on it.
