The next gunslinger to ride into town for 8:30 p.m.-12:15 a.m. Tuesday Night Winter Blues won’t be at all saddle sore when he steps onto Harrah’s Center Stage because he lives just up the road at Tahoe Vista.
Chuck Dunn will perform with the Buddy Emmer Blues Band for the fourth of the weekly shows.
Dunn for 22 years has played with the Blues Monsters, which has members from North Shore and Reno. He also is the host of “Chuckie Dunn’s Choose Blues” show on KTKE 101.5 Truckee Tahoe Radio, which airs from 4-5 p.m. and midnight to 1 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
“We are going to play a Bobby “Blue” Bland song, Robben Ford, a couple from Eric Clapton, Albert King, Joe Bonamassa and Etta James,” Dunn said.
A live weekly show from 8:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m., Winter Blues features three sets. The first by the Buddy Emmer Band featuring Kim Emmer on vocals. The second highlights the guest artist (so far , each has been a “gunslinger” guitarist). The third is an upbeat jam starring dual lead guitars.
The Winter Blues series will continue until at least March 25. The other guest guitarists were Rick Hammond, Jason King and Matty T.
While the free shows on the casino floor are not to be missed, the same can be said for “Chuckie Dunn’s Choose Blues.” He plays an hour of contemporary music not often heard on other blues programs along while giving some insights about every three or four songs.
“I try to play music that nobody’s really playing,” Dunn said. “There are so many great artists out there. (We play a lot from the labels) Red Roof and Blind Pig.”
