Headed into its third year, the Schellraiser Music Festival which brings an eclectic spectrum of bands and performers running the gamut from big names to esoterically cool to the surreal location beneath the stars in Eastern Nevada has just dropped the lineup for its 2024 event.
Decrying the mass commercialism of large scale events like Coachella or Life Is Beautiful, Schellraiser instead plays out like seeing music you would find on a mixtape made for you by the friend who knows the who’s who of underground bands. Think smaller events that have made a name for themselves such as the Trans-Pecos Festival in the art-friendly town of Marfa, Texas. The whole event takes place in McGill Pool Park, within a former White Pine County mining town with a current population of around 1200.
For three days each year, attendees and performers descend on the area’s campgrounds, bars, and hotel swimming pools, with the 2023 event featuring pop up art gallery shows, morning yoga sessions and impromptu pool parties.
Taking place May 30th through June 1st, 2024’s event will feature 2000’s electroclash outfit Ladytron, NYC-based indie rock group We Are Scientists and 90’s alt rockers Mercury Rev headlining. Music takes place on two stages to minimize downtime. Local and regional artists and folk craft artists fill out the festival grounds as well.
