Leave it to the Biggest Little City in the World to create the Biggest Little Urban Music Festival in the World. The cornucopia of coolness that is Reno’s Off Beat Arts and Music Festival can make a concertgoer dizzy with options.
Virtually all of the city’s venues are presenting four days and nights of live music, featuring more than 100 bands. The second-annual Off Beat Festival opened Thursday night when LoLo, the Soft White Sixties and the Last Internationale entertained at the Cargo Concert Hall. For those who purchase a full access wristband, it’s best to decide on a tentative itinerary. The master schedule is here: LINK

Here is one music fan/photographer’s game plan for Friday:
- 8 p.m. – Con Brio in the Cargo Concert Hall
- 8:30 p.m. — Asphalt Socialites in the Rockbar Theater
- 9 p.m. — Rigorous Proof at The Loving Cup
- 10:15 p.m. – The Main Squeeze at Cargo Concert Hall
- 11:30 p.m. — Gene Evaro Jr. at Novi in the Eldorado
- 12:30 a.m. – Jelly Bread at Cargo Concert Hall
The plan, of course, is subject to change. After all, it’s hard to leave a great show.
Here’s a Tahoe Onstage notebook, in three-dot journalism form, for Off Beat tonight:
Jelly Bread’s Cargo show is dubbed the “Pajama Jam.” The Reno quartet was named Best Funk/Soul/R&B at Thursday’s Forte Awards. … Gene Evaro Jr., the supernova from Joshua Tree, has hit all of the area’s festivals this year: High Sierra, Hangtown and Guitarfish. … Tahoe Onstage rock star writer Spencer Kilpatrick will perform at The Saint at 8:50 p.m. Saturday. … South Lake Tahoe bands taking the stage tonight will be 4 Piece Puzzle (3rd Street Bar), Lavish Green (Jub Jubs Thirst Parlor) and Strange Weather (Rockbar Theater). … Celebrate the Chicago Cubs World Series title with Chicago-born The Main Squeeze at Cargo. … Con Brio is a seven-headed monster of soul fronted by the charismatic Ziek McCarter. … Best for last? Reno’s Moondog Matinee and London band The Veils close out Off Beat Sunday night at Cargo.
