Folks in the Tahoe-Reno area know that Northern Nevada beats out Southern Nevada as far as  seasons, mountains, driving commutes and general friendliness of those who choose to call our area home. But we might have to admit defeat to our southern neighbors in their ability to pull together some epically huge entertainment events.

One gathering that might top the list is the Life Is Beautiful Festival, which takes over more than a dozen city blocks around downtown Las Vegas each year for three nights of performers, large-scale art installations, food and vendors, and a general scale of decadence that only Vegas can provide. The festival runs Friday, Sept. 20, to Sunday, Sept. 22.

Just look at this year’s performers: Chance The Rapper, The Black Keys, Janelle Monáe, Vampire Weekend, Zedd, Billie Eilish, Rae Sremmurd, Maggie Rogers, Lil Wayne… This list goes on! Nearly 75 acts in all ranging from rap, rock, soul, pop and EDM. Headliners aside, it’s the middle of each day’s lineups that are looking epic – Walk The Moon, Louis The Child, Carly Rae Jepsen, Whethan, Hot Chip, Phantogram, Banks, Toto.

Each year, Life Is Beautiful debuts a collection of new murals, site installations, light shows and carnivalesque rides and games. Comedians and podcasters are also set to appear.

No one does over the top like Las Vegas, and Life Is Beautiful is a perfect example. Festival tickets and packages are on sale now. Payment plans are available.

Shaun Astor cites pop music singers and social deviants as being among his strongest influences. His vices include vegan baking, riding a bicycle unreasonable distances and fixating on places and ideas that make up the subject of the sentence, "But that’s impossible…" He splits his time between Reno and a hammock perched from ghost town building foundations.
