Summertime at North Shore where music is free

Midtown Social

Get ready to rock out on the beach.

Midtown Social plays Sunday, Aug. 14, at Concerts at Commons Beach in Tahoe City. On Thursday, Aug. 18, Diego’s Umbrella plays at Live at Lakeview Commons on South Shore.

Meanwhile, the North Tahoe Business Association will celebrate the 10th annual Music on the Beach series at Kings Beach State Recreation Area.

Music on the beachThe free shows will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays from June 17 to Sept. 2, with no performances July 1 or Aug. 12. That’s 10 shows to mark the series’ 10th anniversary — everything from rock ‘n’ roll to blues to a touch of honky-tonk.

The NTBA has introduced a new Music on the Beach logo, featuring a blue imprint of Lake Tahoe fashioned into a guitar stock.

Tahoe residents and visitors have three shots each week at free beachside music during summer months. The Live at Lakeside series runs Thursday evenings in South Shore, and Concerts at Commons Beach are Sunday afternoons in Tahoe City, hosted by the Tahoe City Public Utility District.

A lineup also is set for Truckee Thursdays, which run from 5 to 8:30 p.m. in the town’s historic downtown, featuring live music, a food court, beer garden, street fair and kids’ activities.

The Gray’s Crossing Live Music Series, at PJ’s Bar and Grill, 11406 Henness Road, Truckee, runs Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for 12 summer weeks (June 21 to Sept. 6.) It’s free and open to the public. Visitors can bring blankets or low-back beach chairs and sit on PJ’s lawn, or can make a dinner reservation at the restaurant. No outside food or drink — walkup service available — and no dogs.
