Dbacks send down 3 starters, Aces reveal promotions

The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned right-handed pitchers Joel Payamps, Emilio Vargas and Rodrigo Hitoshi “Bo” Takahaski to Triple-A Reno on Friday.

With the MLB regular season approaching, 56 players remain in Arizona’s Spring Training camp.

After being sidelined with an injury at the start of 2019, Payamps, 25, had his first two career starts with the Dbacks. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native totaled three strikeouts in four innings pitched. He had 15 starts between Double-A Jackson and Triple-A Reno.

A Moca, Dominican Republic native Vargas signed with Arizona as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He spent the entire 2019 campaign with Double-A Jackson. The 23-year-old sported a 3.84 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 20 starts.

A Brazilian of Japanese descent, Takahasi, 23, also spent last season with Double-A Jackson. He too signed as an undrafted free agent in 2013, He ended the year with a 3.72 ERA with 104 strikeouts to just 38 walks in 23 starts.

The Diamondbacks are in full swing as the regular season moves up ahead. Tahoe Onstage will be covering Spring Training in Scottsdale, Ariz. March 16-19. 

Opening day at Greater Nevada Field is Thursday, April 9, against defending Pacific Coast League champions Sacramento River Cats, the affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

Reno Aces release 2020 promotional schedule

As Reno adds new faces to its roster, the Aces 2020 schedule is packed with promotional events for fans to enjoy.

The Aces are set for a franchise-record 14 giveaway dates. Reno also continues its Firework Fridays after every Friday home game. The new addition of Super Saturdays — a promotional giveaway for all Saturday home games — is joined by Family Sundays with dollar menu hot dogs and sodas for attendees.

Families are celebrated on Sundays at Greater Nevada Field.
