Funny, sexy and impressive are what comes to mind while watching a performance of Ignite Cabaresque, the adults-only production taking the stage on Saturday nights in Sammy’s Showroom at Harrah’s Reno.

Combining “cabaret” and “burlesque,” the show mixes sultry choreography to showroom themed music and vocal performances from several cast members, with aerial routines on silks and hoops, and a little bit of audience participation. The whole show is carried along by the stage magic of the show’s emcee — complete with witty storytelling and comedic double entendres. He even gets a little help from the theater’s namesake, Sammy Davis Jr.

The show’s backbone lies in its dance routines, which trades a variety of props such as silks, chairs and fire, set with lighting that illuminates all of the action going on across the stage or isolates and accentuates the curves and revealing wardrobe of the dancers. Choreographed routines put focus on the cast members, who trade numbers, embellishing the feel of sexiness with more fun routines that might involve pulling from the crowd to include in their dance.

The show’s emcee, Tyler, often takes the stage to perform a variety of magic tricks while engaging in a quick playful banter with the room that keeps the transitions fluid and weaves the routines into one another.

While keeping with a foundation of burlesque, Ignite Cabaresque brings in other elements such as acrobatics, vocal performances and comedy. Themed as blushingly hot acts taking the stage throughout Reno’s cool winter season, Ignite will hold the showroom floor for one more month of performances before it comes to a close.

Shaun Astor cites pop music singers and social deviants as being among his strongest influences. His vices include vegan baking, riding a bicycle unreasonable distances and fixating on places and ideas that make up the subject of the sentence, "But that’s impossible…" He splits his time between Reno and a hammock perched from ghost town building foundations.
