Possible white Christmas followed by Greene New Year’s Eve

“The 12 Days of Christmas” has been a classic carol for centuries, but the three nights of Jackie Greene has become a New Year’s Eve tradition at Lake Tahoe.

For the fourth consecutive year, Greene and his talented friends will perform three nights, including New Year’s Eve, in the Crystal Bay Casino Crown Room.

Back on the scene, its Jackie Greene.

The Greene run begins Saturday, Dec. 28 with the Jackie Greene Band and the Mother Hips. Crystal Bay sound engineer Blake Beeman told Tahoe Onstage it will be the CBC’s top show of 2013. Midnight North featuring Grahame Lesh plays the Red Room after-party.

Greene has a seated acoustic show the following night, Sunday, Dec. 29. While each of the shows is expected to sell out, this might be the toughest ticket to get. The Jason King Band, a blues quartet from Reno plays the after-party. (Tahoe Onstage VIDEO)

After a night off, Greene and his full band perform on New Year’s Eve. The after-party will be with the Fox Street Allstars. Free champagne will be served at midnight.

While Greene has grown from a coffee house player in Placerville’s Cozmic Café to an acclaimed folk-rock star compared to Bob Dylan and adopted by the Grateful Dead family, he had a most singular 2013. Greene replaced Luther Dickinson as a touring member of the Black Crowes, which traveled all across the globe. He also played with Trigger Hippy, a supergroup with Joan Osborne and Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman.

Greene plans to release his first solo album in four years in 2014 and to tour with his band. But first there is the extended stay at Tahoe.

So if you hear a person strumming a guitar from a porch this week around the California-Nevada state line, yes, it’s Jackie Greene.
