Restless Romantics simply memorable on new Everything And Nothing EP

Restless Romantics’ Everything And Nothing EP cover

November 2024

While music has the potential to get infinitesimally complex in terms of composition, instrumentation, production, etc, etc, etc, the potential for a love song written with a simple hook played with a guitar, bass and drums to achieve the same results of being able to resonate with that raw emotion of a song.

Such is the experience of listening to Restless Romantics’ “Everything and Nothing” EP. On their six song release, the Reno-based three piece is able to transport the listener back to their own teenage bedroom when relationships and the pining, the uncertainty, the fallout and the hindsight all seemed so earth shatteringly big. With lyrics exploring the blossoming and eventual dissolution of a flame that burnt itself out, “Everything and Nothing” toes the line of exploring surfacing emotions all through the lens of singing to, and about, the nameless former partner.

The three piece play a sort of minimal indie sound, where the lofi melodies seem as if they verge on the edge of bursting into a noisy ether. Above all, Restless Romantics have captured a sound that can easily transport the listener to a time and place in their own lives when emotions seemed so overwhelmingly colorful and crippling at the same time, and do so in a toe tappingly way that combines melody and a catchy drum beat. Sometimes ‘simple’ is all it takes to effectively capture a mood into a memorable love song.

The band will appear at The Holland Project in Reno on Friday, November 8th.
