The Valhalla Art, Music & Theatre Festival debuted a wonderful musical revue at the Boathouse Theatre over the July Fourth weekend. “Broadway in Blue: A Broadway Musical Revue” was conceived and directed by Gabriella Giocomo. The 90-minute revue features songs from classic and contemporary Broadway shows. The playful and entertaining musical stars Tom Callahan, Sharon Kerrigan, Narissara Mouritsen Tarazon, Andrea Rogers, Richard S. Sargent, and Sue Kinney on piano. The intimate setting of the Boathouse Theatre is a perfect venue for this elegant presentation.
The revue features 21 well-known songs and several costume changes. The stars interact seamlessly as they move through the setlist. All five have accomplished voices that are accompanied nicely by Sue Kinney’s steady piano.
There are two medleys where the singers take turns on the lead. The first is Rodgers & Hammerstein plays, followed by a medley of Disney movies. Narissara Tarazon show off her versatile and amazing voice. She forms a perfect team with Richard Sargent on the love songs, and their chemistry is exciting.
Kerrigan, Tarazon and Rogers are striking in glitter tops as they perform “You Could Drive a Person Crazy.” Tom Callahan provides a steady lead and good humor. The cast changes to formal dress for the finale, “Lullaby on Broadway,” from “42nd Street.”
“Broadway in Blue” showcaes the wonderful singing talent of the local South Lake Tahoe community. Go out and give it a look and listen.
“Broadway in Blue: A Broadway Musical Revue” continues at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, July 12 – 15 at the Valhalla Art, Music and Theatre Festival at the Historic Boathouse Theatre. Tickets.
