December 2024
Traditionally, much of the NBA has seen the most dominating presence from the Sacramento Kings coming on the date of annual the draft lottery… Though on occasion the team will find it in them to make a run during the actual playing season. Such was the case of the 2001-2002 Kings, who would make it to the Western Conference Finals before their season came to an end at the hands of the LA Lakers*.
Much like a successful Kings season seems attributable to a wild hair, such might be the same for Spencer Kilpatrick and the Sand Gators’ six part EP, each named after players from the Kings’ 2002 squad.
With one new song per month released over the course of six months, the Sand Gators are giving the listener a chance to let their jazzy psychedelic riffs a chance to sink in. Backed by some notable members of other Reno musical projects including the Sextones and Buster Blue, the first two songs – named for players Scot Pollard and Vlade Divac – are currently up on the band’s Bandcamp page, where coming songs will also be posted.
In addition to the new music, Spencer Kilpatrick and the Sand Gators have announced a few select dates in the Reno/Tahoe area:
- December 31st, 2024 – Veterans Hall – Quincy, California
- January 2nd, 2025 – Kilowatt – San Francisco, California
- January 4th – Lo-Bar Social – Reno, Nevada
- January 9th-11th – Moody’s Bistro & Lounge – Truckee, California
More music and performance dates can be found at Spencer Kilpatrick and the Sand Gators’ bandcamp page.
*full disclosure, the author is a Lakers fan and has taken joy in watching LA knock Sacramento out of the playoffs repeatedly…
