November 2025
On Friday, November 14th Dustbowl Revival brought their funky New Orleans jazz rock sound to a very special place in Carson City, The Nashville Social Club’s Swan Music Hall.
The Nashville Social Club, was the inspiration of John Procaccini and Kitty McKay in 2022. Together they bring a Music City experience to Northern Nevada. Nashville Social features two different music stages, the Soft Note Stage which is located in the dining/bar area, and the exceptional Swan Music Hall, which is an intimate concert venue that hosts national touring artists.
Dustbowl Revival hails from Venice Beach, California and keeps a busy tour schedule traveling nationally and internationally to share their diverse sounds. The band touches on many genres from American Soul with a twist of some New Orleans Brass, to old fashioned Rock and Roll. Their energetic live performances will usually get everyone out of their seats and dancing.
The 7 piece band that consists of a brass section featuring a trombone and trumpet, three guitar players, and of course some lively percussion! The groups is fronted by the talented female lead vocalist, Alex Nester! She amazed the audience with her vocal range, voice and her talent! Together this band was a lot of fun to listen and dance to!
Another local female vocalist in attendance, Moni K from the band Moxy Ruckus, commented that “Ms. Nester’s voice was a cross between Etta James and Aretha Franklin.”
Dustbowl Revival opened the show with a jazzy tune then jumped into a wonderful rendition of Carole King’s “Way Over Yonder” showcasing Nester’s incredible vocal range! The group swayed into the New Orleans jazz “Without You,” before blurring genres again and performing “Ohio” from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
The band’s other vocalist, Zach Lupetin, welcomed everyone to the show, announcing that The Swan Room was the group’s favorite venue in Northern Nevada and expressing their excitement to be back on the room’s stage.
Dustbowl Revival returned from a brief intermission, beginning their second set with some songs that fused jazz, funk and blues. They also got the entire room participating and joining the group in singing a few of the choruses. The band ended the set with The Band’s “The Weight” which everyone was singing and dancing to. However the despite announcing that this was their final song, the group wasn’t quite finished yet. The band’s members made their way over to the bar and played a couple more songs without microphones, making use of the intimate space to offer a very close up conclusion to the night.
Everyone enjoyed this very special evening with Dustbowl Revival and the magnificent sound and hospitality in the Swan Music Hall of the Nashville Social Club.
If you have not seen a show there yet, this reporter recommends that you go! It’s an amazing venue! I want thank John and Kitty for their vision and effort to bring a variety of musical artists to Carson City!
