Strange Weather

The storm has passed. It’s time to rock and roll.

“All over the world, strangers talk only about the weather.”

Friday night, Strange Weather will be the talk of the town in South Lake Tahoe, when the hometown band staging a “rock and roll revolution” debuts at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

Strange Weather album coverStrange Weather’s self-titled album has been months in the making, following shows throughout South Shore and a fall tour that thundered from Southern California to San Francisco. In January, the whirlwind touched ground at North Shore’s Crystal Bay Casino, where the band staged its first appearance in the Red Room.

Strange Weather is frontman Vinny Berry, flanked by Todd Christensen on bass and John “Chili” Munroe on guitar, with Jon Gardner on drums.

Their new album, recorded at Play Your Own Music in Carson City, features original songs that include “Sleeping on the Lawn,” “Shi Shi Dogs,” “Hummingbird,” “Watch This Space,” “Elvis,” and a self-titled track inspired by a July hail storm in Tahoe.

Band members have described Strange Weather as “new dogs doing an old trick,” hard-driving rock and roll — like “the 1970s meet the 1990s.”

“We want to get people digging rock and roll again,” Berry said this summer.

Although Lake Tahoe’s weather has been springlike lately, the storm continues at 9 p.m. on Friday in Hard Rock’s Vinyl. Stop by if you’re still searching for that Stairway to Heaven.
