From the high deserts of Nevada, The Sextones emerge with its debut album, “Moonlight Vision,” at a CD release performance Saturday, April 8, at The Saint in midtown Reno. The show starts at 9 p.m. The cover charge is $12. Hopeless Jack opens at 9 p.m.
“Moonlight Vision” is a diligently crafted work showcasing their distinctive brand of soul music with smoked out guitar riffs, growling bass lines, commanding drums, sticky organ comping and honest, but catchy vocal acrobatics. The release of “Moonlight Vision” is the first step forward for a group that has already accomplished what most musicians spend a lifetime trying to achieve –touring across the nation and sharing stages with the likes of Macy Gray, Ziggy Marley, and Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, as well as working with renowned funkologist Alan Evans of Soulive.
The Reno bandmates have been friends since they attended middle school. It was formerly called the Mark Sexton Band.
In 2014 the original trio of Mark Sexton, bassist Alexander Korostinsky and drummer Daniel Weiss employed the talents of keyboard virtuoso Ryan Taylor to complete their musical family. Over the last 10 years, these young soul renegades have relentlessly toured the west coast gaining a multifarious group of loyal fans that help turn every show into an all-out funk dance party.
