Paa Kow headlines the opening Live at Lakeview show of the summer at South Lake Tahoe’s Lakeview Commons. North Shore’s Drop Theory opens at 4:30 p.m.
A native of Ghana, West Africa, Paa Kow plays world and Afro-fusion music with jazz influences. His eight-piece band includes two percussionists, two horn players, bass, guitar and keyboards. Paa Kow sings and plays drums. He has performed onstage since he was 7, once skipping school and hiding in a bass drum on a band’s tour bus. Drop Theory, based in North shore, is all about the funk. Formed in 2008, its sound ranges from Afro-beat to 1990s acid jazz to straight-up funk and soul, playing a mix of originals and covers.
