Guitar Strings vs. Chicken Wings

A battle of epic proportions is coming to Squaw Valley on Friday, Sept. 11 with the return of Guitar Strings vs. Chicken Wings. Six restaurants and five bands will go head-to-head from 6-10 p.m. in The Village at Squaw Valley to benefit the Tahoe Institute for Natural Sciences. Each restaurant will be cooking their own signature recipes for spicy, flavor-packed chicken wings, and joining forces with the region’s best bands to crank the contest to the max.

Chicken and music lovers are not going to want to miss a single stop on this around-the-valley face-off. Restaurant and music pairings are listed below.

Group A: Bands perform from 6-7 p.m. and 8-9 p.m.
Coburn Station at Fireside Pizza
Drop Theory at Twenty-Two Bistro
Matt Reardon & Friends at Mamasake

Group B: Bands perform from 7-8 p.m. and 9-10 p.m.
A Surprise Band at Rocker@Squaw
Electric Jimmy at The Auld Dubliner

Entry is a $5 donation to enjoy the wing and drink specials, as well as the opportunity to pick the winners. Restaurants will battle for the Best Wing – Wing vs. Wing Champion Trophy. Bands will be battling for their own prize –$250 in gift certificates, plus bragging rights.

Registration to vote will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Events Plaza. Registered event attendees will get great wing deals, with four wings for $5, plus beer and drink specials available at each restaurant and a bar in the Events Plaza.

New this year, Cornice Cantina will battle for best wings from its convenient location in the Village. The restaurant will also be the place to either cool down or heat back up, with more live music offered after the event.
Proceeds from the entry donation will benefit Tahoe Institute of Natural Sciences (TINS), a local member-supported nonprofit organization seeking to advance the natural history, conservation, and ecosystem knowledge of the Tahoe region through science, education and outreach. TINS partnered with Squaw Valley to bring complimentary guided-hikes to the resort this summer and the organization has a long-term goal of bringing a world-class interpretive nature center and educational facility to the Tahoe area.
