Five Alarm Funk wraps up a Northwest tour with a Halloween performance in the Crystal Bay Casino’ Crown Room.
The eight-piece band from Canada played this year at Burning Man. While it’s hard to place the music in a specific genre, imagine putting scortching elements of gypsy rock, Afro-funk, Latin, ska, punk and prog-metal into a box, the result would be “Sweat,” which in the name of its studio album released earlier this year.
There is a video featuring the album’s opening song, “Widowmaker,” that will be release when the 12-date tour kicks off.
“’Sweat’ is the culmination of over a decade of writing and playing music together,” drummer/vocalist Tayo Branston said in a press statement. “It’s by far the hottest, funkiest work we have ever created.”
In addition to Burning Mann, the Juno-nominated band has played at the Ottawa Jazz Festival, Saskatoon Jazz Festival, SunFest, Summer Meltdown, Oregon Eclipse, Enchanted Forest Gathering.
Five Alarm Funk also includes Gabe Boothroyd (guitar), Oliver Gibson (guitar), Jason Smith (bass), Thomas Towers (congas), Carl Julig (timbales), Eli Bennett (saxophone) and Kent Wallace (trumpet).
