Humboldt Hideaway to put on an epic indie music weekend in an off-the-map Nevada location

November 2025

For three of the past four years, Schellraiser Music Festival has brought a series of outsized performer lineups to a smalltown environment in rural Nevada for some highly memorable festivals.

Acting as an almost unofficial kickoff to summer, the “micro fest” has brought performers such as Dinosaur Jr, Old 97’s, Murder By Death, Plague Vendor, Blonde Redhead, Ladytron, Mercury Rev, The Joy Formidable, Nikki Lane and Shannon Shaw to a picturesque valley near the town of Ely, Nevada. Imagine getting to see a weekend full of performers in an intimate outdoor festival setting and you have the idea of what Schellraiser has created.

For 2026, the festival has shifted locations and changed up the name to reflect their new home. Humboldt Hideaway – named for the nearby East Humboldt Mountain Range that is home to hot springs, alpine lakes, campground and ghost towns – is the latest edition of the music festival. Shifting to the Interstate 80 town of Wells a short distance east of Elko and set for two days over the weekend of May 29th and 30th, the fest has just announced another lineup of artists – several of which are playing their only area shows.

Below are a few of the bands and performers:

  • Scottish indie pop group Camera Obscura will be making one of three US appearances
  • Indie group Ivy will perform their first US show in 15 years and one of only four US shows
  • UK alt rockers Swervedriver
  • Psych rockers White Denim, Frankie Rose, Gift
  • Shoegaze performers Hotline TNT, Taleen Kali

In all, 17 performers will hit the Humboldt Hideaway stage over the weekend. If past Schellraiser activities were any indication, attendees might be able to stumble across bands doing karaoke in small town bars or impromptu parties at motel swimming pools or casino bars, or might sandwich the festival dates with the area’s natural and typically uncrowded areas such as the Ruby Mountains, Angel Lake or ghost towns and natural hot springs.

Those who like their music festivals based around a tactile experience of independent leaning music and a surreally beautiful and remote location would do well to check out Humboldt Hideaway.

Book your rooms or camp sites early as they are limited in this town of 1250 people…

Shaun Astor cites pop music singers and social deviants as being among his strongest influences. His vices include vegan baking, riding a bicycle unreasonable distances and fixating on places and ideas that make up the subject of the sentence, "But that’s impossible…" He splits his time between Reno and a hammock perched from ghost town building foundations.
