One big hit was all Joseph Foreman needed.
The artist known as Afroman in 2000 made a record, “Because I got High,” which through the Napster music-swapping service went viral. Afroman became one of the first artists to gain national notoriety because of the Internet.
The song “Because I Got High” resonated because of its humor. The refrain was the reason for not cleaning his room, going to court and attending class. The song was included in Matt Damon and Ben Afflect’s movie “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.”
Influenced by Too Short, Big Daddy Kane and 2 Live Crew, Afroman has had a steady career, releasing “The Even Better Times,” “Afroholic,” “Drunk’nHigh,” “A Colt 45 Christmas” and “Waiting to Inhale.”
Afroman plays Saturday in Reno and Sunday in Tahoe in a couple of Late Nite Production shows.
