February 2025
At a recent spate of shows celebrating the release of I’M NOT ALONE ANYMORE, the second full length album by Too Close For Comfort, the band thrashed, leapt and swiveled across a stage lit by light columns set to burst in synchrony to the group’s mix of hardcore and pop punk. The scene made up a more fully formed vision of the sound and performances that has grown quickly and noticeably over the two years since the release of the Reno group’s first album, We Only Live Here On This Planet For So Long.
While that debut release was built on a foundation of pop punk harkening back to bands like Fall Out Boy, this newer album is leaps and bounds beyond in terms of sound and breadth. That pop punk influence is still heavily present – most clearly displayed in songs like “Crossfire” which builds on an acoustic intro before kicking into singalong choruses and anthemic hooks. Songs like “Bleeding Out” and “Numb To It All” hit with almost a metalcore fervor of heaviness. But the album also has an acoustic song with lyrics written as an ode to a parent, showing off the full range of songwriting layered into I’M NOT ALONE ANYMORE.
On a trajectory toward a heavier and more well rounded sound, Too Close For Comfort’s I’M NOT ALONE ANYMORE shows off the efforts of a group embracing a wider array of elements to influence their anthemic music.
