Following a slew of EPs dating back to 2018, Reno band Charity Kiss has put out their first album, the 12 song Slackademic and the results are equal parts self deprecrating garage indie, basement show singalongs, and a musical quirkiness vaguely reminiscent of Violent Femmes or Cake.
The band has been a staple across Reno’s house show and club venues, and with Slackademic the four piece rollicks through sonically noodly guitar hooks that lean heavily onto 90’s alt rock with the ability to wedge themselves into your head for hours.
Over the course of the album, Charity Kiss slows up the pace a bit (“10 Bucks”, “Captain Bummer”) however the group shines when they’re face planting into angular reverb and wielding hooky choruses that are made for a room full of beer spilling and yelling loudly along!
Charity Kiss’ Slackademic can be streamed on Spotify or Apple Music.
More info and updates can be found at the band’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
The band will be hitting the West Coast in support of the new album, starting with a show on March 1st at the Holland Project in Reno.
