On Friday, April 24th Carson City’s Nashville Social Club hosted The Delta Wires. The Oakland, California group, a California Blues Hall of Fame inductee, have been a staple in the west coast blues scene for decades. They are known for a horn driven, high energy sound that blends Mississippi Delta Blues with urban grit, which creates their special Oakland Style Blues with the best Horn section in the Bay Area.
The Delta Wires has Ernie Pinata as the amazing lead on vocals with his killer harmonica. JoJo Styles was there playing his fabulous solos on his lead guitar, and Tony Malfatti was there contributing to the tunes on bass. And Tony Huszar has been playing drums with the Delta Wires for over 25 years! The best horn section in the bay area included: David Bowman (celebrating his birthday on this evening) on his trombone, Caleb Murray on a sexy saxophone, and John Christensen with his wild trumpet. Together this group was amazing! I can see why they were voted the Best Band in the Bay Area many times!

For a special treat that evening, Jason King opened the show. He played an amazing tribute to Dave Mason, singing “Feeling Alright.”
The Delta Wires started the evening with a tune that had wonderful bluesy solos, then jumped into “You Look so Sweet and Tender”, to their original “Bring me up Baby!” They did have that Oakland Bluesy style which reminded me of another blues band, Tower of Power! Must be an Oakland sound!
The group played two one-hour sets that night, and started their second set with “Green Onions “ from Booker T and the MG’s before bumping up the rhythm with a ZZ Top tune. Many harmonica solos peppered the set, while the dance floor got crowded with happy dancers! Everyone there was smiling and having a wonderful evening!
Thank you to The Delta Blues and The Nashville Social Club, Carson City for Keeping the Blues Alive!!
