Men’s college basketball: San Jose State at Nevada

Nevada (14-10, 7-5 in the Mountain West Conference) plays San Jose State (7-16, 3-8 MW) on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno.

Nevada seeks is 19th consecutive Mountain West home victory.

The Wolf Pack lost the first meeting 70-68 which snapped an eight-game win streak to the Spartans.  SJSU has dropped five of its six games and are 10th in the MW standings at 3-8.

Seneca Knight is the only SJSU player averaging double figures at 15 points per game. Ivey Brae is second at 9.6 points per contest.  Christain Anigwe is grabbing a team-best 5.9 rebounds per outing.

The Pack are led by Jalen Harris who scores a MW high 20.7 points per contest and his 25.2 points per game in conference play is also first.  Harris has scored 30 or more points in the last three games becoming the first player in Nevada history to accomplish the feat.

Senior Jazz Johnson has missed the last two games as his shoulder was bothering him and his status for Saturday is unknown at this time.  Johnson is second on the team scoring 16.3 points per game.  He tops the MW in in 3-pointers made per game (3.2), 3-point percentage (42.3%) and 3-pointers made (71).  He also ranks nationally in all three categories.

Lindsey Drew tops the team with his 4.3 assists per game to rank fourth in the conference.  Drew is third on the team scoring 11.4 points per game. Drew has scored 903 points, grabbed 604 rebounds and dished out 486 assists in his Pack career.

Senior Nisré Zouzoua scored a Pack career-best 20 points in the win over New Mexico.   Zouzoua made 6-of-7 3-pointers in the victory and it was the first time he led the team in scoring.   At CSU he was 5-for-5 from behind the arc.  He earned the start for Johnson at BSU and versus Air Force.  On the season he is averaging 9.4 points per game off the bench and 13.6 points in the last five games. 

SATURDAY PROMOTIONS

Children 11 and under are free with a paid adult.  Tickets are available only on day of the event at the door.  Load up your car with all the neighborhood children and they are all in for free with one paid adult.

The team will be celebrating Black History Month with special shooting shirts.  At halftime members of the on-campus African American student group will talk about how they are making an impact on campus.

 THE SERIES

Nevada leads the series 60-49 and has won eight of the last nine meetings.  Head coach Steve Alford is 0-1 versus the Spartans.

The game will be air on the AT&T SportsNet.  Drew Goodman will call the action with Joe Cravins  providing the color commentary.

The game can be heard on 94.5 FM in northern Nevada with John Ramey calling all the action and Len Stevens providing the color commentary.
