It’s going to be a reggae sort of summer concert series at the Harveys Outdoor Arena.
Slightly Stoopid will bring its Sounds of Summer 2017 tour to Lake Tahoe on Friday, Aug. 4, along with Iration, J Boog and The Movement. Tickets for the 5 p.m. general admission show are $25 to $37.50 plus fees and will be available March 10 at ticketmaster.com and APEconcerts.com. Slightly Stoopid also performed in the arena in 2015 and 2016.
On Friday, June 30, fellow SoCal reggae rockers Rebelution will appear at Harveys, along with Nahko and Medicine for the People, HIRIE and Collie Buddz. Rebelution released “Falling Into Place” in 2016, and the album was nominated for a Grammy, an award claimed by Ziggy Marley.
Based in Ocean Beach, California, Slightly Stoopid is led by co-founders and multi-instrumentalists Kyle McDonald and Miles Doughty, along with drummer Ryan “Rymo” Moran; percussionist Oguer “OG” Ocon; saxophonist Daniel “Dela” Delacruz; keyboardist Paul Wolstencroft; trumpet and trombone player Andy Geib, and special guest and “unofficial eighth member” Karl Denson on sax.

Denson is a man with a hand in several bands, including the Rolling Stones. How does that compare?
“I tell people all they time, they ask me ‘what is it like playing with the Rolling Stones?’ I say ‘it’s the fucking Rolling Stones.’ The biggest band on earth,” Denson told Tahoe Onstage recently. “I will say when I’m with Slightly Stoopid, I look at the girls in the audience when I’m onstage. When I’m with the Rolling Stones, I look at the Rolling Stones.”
Iration has played twice in the last year at the Cargo Concert Hall in Reno, and J Boog also has appeared in recent months in the Biggest Little City. Iration recently released “Double Up,” an acoustic album of its most famous songs since the band formed in 2007.
In addition to the two full nights of reggae, Harveys and Harrah’s have announced three other shows for the summer concert series. Train, Natasha Bedingfield and O.A.R will appear on Sunday, July 9, on the day the American Century Golf Championship (the celebrity golf tournament) will be decided.
Third Eye Blind takes the stage Sunday, July 16, and Hawaiian folk-rocker Jack Johnson will appear on Friday, July 28, along with the Animal Liberation Orchestra. It’s Johnson’s first major tour since 2014.
