The musical artists featured Saturday night at Moody’s Bistro in Truckee is taking requests, and it has one that is a bit unusual. They want to come up with a name for the band.
Darcy Kathleen will perform “a little bit of everything” with her group that includes her guitar-playing husband, Lucas Arize, drummer Miguel Jimenez, bassist Mike Mayhall and horn player Tony Cataldo.
Darcy Kathleen has performed with various ensembles at the jazz restaurant but this one plays together so much, it’s time to come up with a name, she said.
Her band typically plays a dinnertime jazz set at Moody’s followed by a funk and blues set.
A native of Elko, Nevada, Darcy Kathleen studied elementary education at University of Nevada, Reno, and then interior architecture in San Francisco, where she sang jazz in clubs throughout the city. She also lived in performed in Florence, Italy, for four years before moving back to Reno in 2013. She is a music theory and dance instructor who is spending an increasing amount of time onstage. She also is a member of a theatrical jazz band Post Bob Theater.
“It is a nice surprise to be in my home state to be able to singing when it is not my day job,” she said. “I love music and to move around and I have made a little career out of it. Everywhere I go I put in a couple of days a week singing but now it’s becoming more regular.”
She estimates she’s played a dozen times at Moody’s since moving back from Italy.
“It’s one of my favorite venues,” she said. “The lighting is perfect and it has an intimate setting. You can see it from street that something is happening inside of Moody’s. “(Owner JJ Morgan is a true music lover and gets the best of the best and for a small place he keeps the live music going in Truckee.”
