Friday is funky.
The North Shore band Drop Theory returns to the Crystal Bay Casino Red Room for a free show beginning at 10 p.m.
“We’re all based in Truckee and Tahoe and have played CBC many times over the past few years,” bass player Isaac Freed wrote in an email. “Our drummer (Alex Dobbs) plays in the Downbeat and we all sit in with other bands from around North Lake.”
Formed in 2008, the band’s sound ranges from afrobeat, 1990’s acid jazz, straight-up funk and soul. It plays a mix of covers and originals.
J. Pinard plays saxophone and sings. Mike Zucker and Peter Kowalczyk play guitar.
It lists influences as Lettuce, Galactic, Soulive, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Paul Simon, Herbie Hancock, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys.
