Paul Guttman will be memorialized Sunday, Sept. 8 with a musical tribute by Toccata, the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
Sept. 8 had been the day planned for a soiree at Guttman’s Incline Village home to raise funds for Toccata’s upcoming 9-11 memorial concerts. Guttman died in an August airplane wreck.
Guttman will be honored at 1:30 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Church at Incline Village.
Maestro James Rawie in an email wrote, “We are all still in shock and mourning the tragic and sudden death of our dear friend Paul Guttman. … Our vocal soloists will perform art songs and arias, and Elizabeth Pitcairn will perform several of Paul’s favorite “encore” pieces. Donna Axton will accompany on piano.
Admission is free. Beverages or food can be placed on the tables on the church’s patio. Donations will benefit the Paul Guttman Concert Series to be held in February and March. It will feature the winner of the Young Artist Piano Competition.
Toccata concludes its 2013 Tahoe Summer MusicFest with a commemoration of the 12th anniversary of the 9-11 tragedy Four performances feature violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing Beethoven’s Concerto for Violin in D major Op.61 on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin. The concert will conclude with Mozart’s symphonic-choral masterpiece, Requiem, with soloists Katharine DeBoer, Joy Strotz and Anna Helwing, sopranos; Stephanie Dixon, mezzo soprano, Albert Lee and Chris Nelson, tenor and Stuart Duke, baritone; and features the 65 voice Tahoe Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Maestro Rawie Toccata’s founder and artistic director, will conduct all performances.

Tickets are $30 adults, $25 seniors, (62 and up), and $5 students ages 19-23. Preferred seating is available for $40 adults and $15 students and can be reserved online.
