Benoit’s guests are Big Chief Monk Boudreaux\, Johnny Sansone and Waylon Thibodeaux. \nBig Chief Monk Boudreaux (HBO’s Treme) incorporates African Rhythms and Mardi Gras Chants into his own original style of Rhythm and Blues. Boudreaux is the Big Chief of the Golden Eagles\, a legendary Mardi Gras Indian tribe. He is widely known for his long-time collaboration with Big Chief Bo Dollis in The Wild Magnolias. In 2016\, Boudreaux received a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship in Washington\, DC. \nJohnny Sansone goes deep into Bayou Blues and Zydeco with his roof shaking vocals\, harmonica and accordion. Sansone has won numerous awards in the Crescent City\, including multiple categories for Offbeat magazine’s annual “Best of the Beat” competition. \nWaylon Thibodeaux rounds out the Jam on vocals and fiddle. Born in Louisiana’s ‘Bayou Country’ just a few miles southwest of New Orleans\, Houma native Waylon Thibodeaux has been dubbed “Louisiana’s Rockin Fiddler”. His rollicking\, Cajun and zydeco rhythms never fail to serve up a good helping of spicy\, high-energy Louisiana fun. \n

Tickets for the Sept. 11 WordWave Reading have been refunded. \nEach night in October will feature full performances of the three winning 1-Act Plays. The play’s writers will be in attendance to answer questions about the plays and their process after the performances. \nSusan Boulanger is an award-winning director\, actor\, producer\, and educator from Los Angeles. Her “Out\, Damn COVID Audition” one-act play finds Gayle\, a local actor who has reached her breaking point\, coaching the over-zealous Darcie for a Shakespeare audition that will definitely be…unforgettable. A silly comedy sure to delight. \n“Big Top Love” written by Nicole DeSalle explores the motivations behind our dreams through the experiences of Travis and Lydia who meet at a Chicago cafe and learn they both are seeking thrills they hope will bring joy to their lives. DeSalle’s short and one-act plays have been performed at the 2018 Pittsburgh New Works Festival\, the 2021 Central Pennsylvania Theatre and Dance Festival\, and the 2021 New Play Development Workshop as part of the at The Conference. \nPeter McDonough’s dramedy\, Joint Chiefs\, won the playwriting competition in 2016\, and received its premiere production the following year at Lake Tahoe Community College’s Duke Theatre. This year’s entry “The Process” finds first-grade teacher Sarah Chapman reliving the events of a specific day with the help of a counselor. The women painstakingly unearth the truth\, forcing the audience to confront a chilling threat from which no one is immune. \nThe underlying principle of WordWave is that stories—in song\, theater\, oral tradition\, and books—change lives. WordWave provides a venue for locals and visitors to share their stories and validate their creativity. \nMasks will be required for everyone while attending indoor performances in the Boathouse Theatre.
