SUMMARY:Achilles Wheel at Valhalla Tahoe
DESCRIPTION:Achilles Wheel performs on Valhalla Tahoe’s Grand Lawn at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday\, July 21. \nMembership Benefits: Purchase tickets at discounted price\, invitations and discounts on special member only events\, free beverages at each performance\, a portion of each membership is tax-deductible. \nAchilles Wheel combines infectious high energy dance beats and stark lyrical ballads. Mixing Roots Rock storytelling with dance hall psychedelia they bring amazing energy to all their shows. The harsh light of the modern world does not diminish their idealism as we struggle to live free and have a good time… and in the end – hopefully make a difference. Achilles Wheel fearlessly sings out to these times\, the here and now.

SUMMARY:Bluesdays: Chris Cain
DESCRIPTION:Chris Cain plays Bluesdays in The Village at Squaw Valley on Tuesday\, July 27. \nCain has played at Bluesdays more than any other performer. During the lockdown\, he signed with Alligator Records and his album\, “Raisin’ Cain” has remained high on the blues charts for months. \n“That little gig at Squaw Valley has been one of the real joys of my playing days\,” Cain said. “I’ve never played anywhere where everybody’s so happy. My band is like a bunch of flowers and if you put water on them\, they just bloom. Those folks there are just so receptive to stuff. My band just played their brains out when they’d go there.”

SUMMARY:The Tom Rhodes Band at Valhalla Tahoe
DESCRIPTION:The Tom Rhodes Band at Valhalla Tahoe: The show starts at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday\, July 28 on the Grand Lawn at Valhalla Tahoe at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe. \nBefore you hear Tom Rhodes’ voice\, you feel it – like a left jab to the jaw. Raspy and soulful\, like Ray LaMontagne or a young Van Morrison\, but with a soaring intensity that recalls Jackson Browne. The Oakland\, California-based songwriter has spent more than a decade honing his honest\, heartfelt brand of Americana\, and learning to craft songs whose truth matches his passion as a performer. In that time\, he has performed all over the US and Europe\, released five albums\, 2 EPs\, numerous singles\, and even appeared on Season 9 of “The Voice.” Tom’s songs and voice have been featured on dozens of TV shows and Movies\, including Spenser Confidential\, Hawaii 5-0\, 9-1-1\, Criminal Minds\, and many more. “I realized that you can do more with music than talk about yourself. You can do more with music than express a feeling. You can express a piece of information with feeling and get the same emotional response\, but you’re actually doing something to spread good ideas and help people out there.” As Rhodes puts it\, “To me\, singing songs is about passionately connecting with the thing I’m talking about\, and if you’re singing about something that you actually believe in it’s really easy to get there.” One listen and you’ll understand.

SUMMARY:Darren Senn
DESCRIPTION:Derren Senn performs at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Alibi Ale Works – Incline Public House. \nThrough engaging stories and simple\, well-crafted songs\, Darren Senn is sure to take you someplace.\nSince releasing the studio album Detrimental Tendencies in 2018\, Senn released two new singles in 2020 : “Gone Are the Days\,” which harkens back to the simplicity of childhood\, and “Winnemucca\,” another stripped-down gem taking us on a lonely trip to a Nevada desert town to meet an old high school friend. “It’s a painting about the human condition. Not the happiest number\, but one of my favorites. A long lost buddy and me were both struggling with alcohol and life and decided to meet up in Winnemucca and drink about it.”\nThe two singles anchor Senn’s latest album\, Nothing Comes From Nowhere\, released in March\, 2021. “Detrimental Tendencies was a blast and I’m very proud of it\,” he says. “Now\, with Nothing Comes From Nowhere\, I get back to my sweet spot\, delivering songs I hope will pull your heartstrings with just my voice\, guitar and harmonica. Of course\, having a musical wizard in Martin Shears producing and offering his skills on multiple instruments\, I couldn’t resist dressing up a couple tracks with full arrangements that I think help capture their essence very well. I’m so excited to share them with the world.”\nSenn aspires to carry on\, in his own style\, the magic of master storyteller songwriters like John Prine\, Todd Snider and Townes Van Zandt. “Nothing Comes From Nowhere is the latest chapter in my quest for self-discovery. I have embraced the journey of finding my own true voice\, and take great pleasure mining bits and pieces from the legends. That’s one of the reasons I chose this title. These guys have helped guide me to the light.”\nOn performing live\, Senn has this to say: “I can’t wait to play live again. I mostly perform solo. I’ve always struggled with social anxiety\, so it’s incredibly gratifying to conquer that; to do a solo show and really connect with an audience. That’s my most sacred place. I want us all to go on a little trip somewhere when I get on a stage.”\nBorn and raised in Eugene\, Oregon\, Darren Senn has resided in Stateline\, Nevada (Lake Tahoe) for the past 24 years and plans to keep cranking out folk songs and getting back out to play them live when the time is right.

SUMMARY:Sneaky Creatures
DESCRIPTION:Sneaky Creatures drink beer and dwell at the Alibi Ale Works – Incline Public House at 7 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 12. \nSneaky Creatures is a new mischievous gypsy jazz / alt-country septet from Tahoe Vista / Kings Beach\, and they are creeping into the North Tahoe music scene with their unusual blend of the rootsy and the jazzy\, the gypsy and the honky\, the funky and the rockabilly.\nFeaturing Josh Roelle (Horsemouth\, Truckee Tribe) on electric guitar\, Kerry Andras (The Rusty Strings) on stand-up bass\, Kevin Drake (Downbeat) on saxophones\, Todd Holway (Quartet Minus One) on keyboards\, Lena Meyer on trombone and trumpet\, Jesse Steele on trumpet\, and Steve Saturno (Quartet Minus One) on drums\, this lineup of seasoned Tahoe musicians come together to create a sound that is at once unique and original\, and also strangely familiar.\nWhile watching these guys furtively slink from genre to genre\, you can expect to hear many fine examples of Roelle’s songwriting skills\, a plethora of obscure covers\, and the occasional crowd pleaser. You’ll want to swing your partner\, laugh your head off\, and duck for cover all at the same time.
