SUMMARY:Coco Montoya
DESCRIPTION:Coco Montoya plays Sutter Creek Theatre on Friday\, April 21. \nDoors 7 pm\, show 8 pm. Open seating\, beer and wine available. $30 Advance\, $35 Day of Show. \nBetween his white-hot guitar playing and his soulful\, emotional vocals\, Coco Montoya has talent to burn. In a career that spans almost four decades\, he’s gone from drumming for blues icon Albert Collins to holding the lead guitar spot in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers to leading his own band and touring worldwide. Montoya is revered for his ability to move from subtly melodic guitar playing to slash-and-burn pyrotechnics. Equally forceful are his deep\, soul-baring vocals. Years of constant touring\, playing unforgettable shows at clubs\, concert halls and festivals\, have earned him his position at the top of the contemporary blues world. And it all started with a chance meeting in the mid-1970s with legendary bluesman Albert Collins\, who offered Montoya a spot in his band\, where he stayed for the next five years. Coco was initially hired as Collins’ drummer and later—with Albert mentoring him on the guitar—became the band’s rhythm guitarist. A few years after leaving Collins’ band\, British blues star John Mayall heard Coco jamming onstage and was so impressed that he hired him for the newly reformed Bluesbreakers. \nMontoya earned his status as a master guitarist and soul-powered vocalist through years of paying his dues as a sideman with Albert Collins (first as a drummer) and then as a featured guitarist with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers\, before launching his solo career in 1993. Five years of constant touring with Collins and ten years with Mayall turned him into a monster player and dynamic performer. Montoya has released solo albums to great critical and popular acclaim\, and has played at clubs\, concert halls and major festivals all over the world. Guitar Player says Montoya plays “stunning\, powerhouse blues with a searing tone\, emotional soloing\, and energetic\, unforced vocals.” \nStill an indefatigable road warrior\, Montoya continues to pack clubs and theaters around the world\, and brings festival audiences to their feet from New York to New Orleans to Chicago to San Francisco. Across the globe\, he’s performed in countries including Australia\, Belgium\, Switzerland\, Germany\, Norway\, England\, Brazil\, Argentina\, Spain\, Mexico\, Ecuador\, Italy\, Poland\, Russia\, Czech Republic and Canada. Vintage Guitar says\, “Coco just keeps getting better and better…rockin’ blues with guitar that cuts straight to the heart of the matter. His guitar playing is funky and blistering; it’s perfect. Whatever he plays\, he does it with fire and passion rarely seen in this day and age.” \nThe award winning historic Sutter Creek Theatre is an intimate 215 seat former silent film theatre with superb sound. Voted Best Indie Theatre multiple times (KCRA A-List). \n

SUMMARY:Selwyn Birchwood
DESCRIPTION:Selwyn Birchwood plays the Sutter Creek Theatre on Friday\, March 24. \nThe rising guitar and lap steel player calls his original music “electric swamp funkin’ blues\,” defined by raw and soulful musicianship played with fire-and-brimstone fervor. His gritty\, unvarnished vocals draw his audience deep inside his unforgettable tales of love\, passion\, pain and pleasure. No other band on the current blues scene is built quite like Birchwood’s. In addition to Selwyn’s electrifying guitar and lap steel playing\, the other featured instrument is Regi Oliver’s driving baritone sax. The group is rounded out by bass\, drums and\, for the first time\, keyboards. \nWanting to capture the power of the now larger band\, Birchwood wrote and arranged 13 new songs for his latest album\, Living In A Burning House\, and brought in famed Grammy Award-winning musician Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy\, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram\, Susan Tedeschi) to produce. From the rocking opener I’d Climb Mountains to the sweet soul of She’s A Dime and One More Time to the hair-raising Revelation\, Living In A Burning House features some of the most vividly striking writing on today’s blues scene. Birchwood’s voice and vision are clear\, his sound is edgy and compelling\, and his stories are memorable and lasting. \nSince the 2014 release of his Alligator Records debut\, Don’t Call No Ambulance\, Birchwood’s meteoric rise from playing small Florida clubs to headlining international festival stages is nothing short of phenomenal. The album received the Blues Music Award and Living Blues Critics’ Award for Best Debut Album Of 2014\, and he won the 2015 Blues Blast Rising Star Award. Rave reviews ran in publications from Rolling Stone to The Wall Street Journal\, from The Chicago Tribune to The San Francisco Chronicle. \n“A powerhouse player and emotive performer…his band\, his materia

SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Blues: Richie Blue
DESCRIPTION:Richie Blue’s motto is “There’s no bar too far\,” which is a good thing because the guitarist from Fresno will travel all the way to Harrah’s Lake Tahoe for Tuesday Night Blues with the Buddy Emmer Blues Band. \n\n\n\n\n\nBlue’s blistering guitar playing and heart and soul vocals have taken him to his current status as one of the top drawing acts on the club and festival circuit all over California\, the northwestern states\, Canada\, and Mexico. His brand of music although rooted in the blues\, is a blend of rockabilly\, country swing\, New Orleans swamp\, and soul. \nBorn and raised in Washington\, Richie won his first talent show contest in 1969 and went on to play in 1970s northwest bands such as The Nashband and Greasewood before moving to San Francisco in 1980. His stint with The Fabulous Beaumont Brothers featuring Amos GarrEett brought attention to Richie’s Twangin Blues and slide playing. Soon he was gigging the San Jose\, San Francisco and Sacramento club and festival circuit with just about everyone in sight — some big names\, others not so big — but always adding his tasteful\, graceful\, unpredictable and amazing guitar playing! \nRichie began performing with his own band in 1994 and has released three CDs on the San Francisco Farmboy label. His original song “Rooster” has been performed by the band Zero\, Norton Buffalo\, Stu Blank\, The Sonoma Swampdogs and other Bay Area blues bands. With production help from Norton Buffalo and Steve Miller\, Richie recorded and shopped his song “Run Through The Night” with favorable notices! \nBlue has been a guest guitarist on 30+ albums and CDs! The following is a list of a few notable artists Richie has performed\, toured and or recorded with: Amos Garrett\, Steve Warner\, Doug Kershaw\, Roy Clark\, Little Anthony\, The Drifters\, Fabian\, Elvin Bishop\, Norton Buffalo\, Steve Miller\, B.B. King\, Little Milton\, Johnny Copeland\, Buddy Miles\, Terry Hanck\, Johhny V\, Tommy Tu Tone\, Bobby Voltage and Doyle Bramhall 2.

SUMMARY:Albert Cummings
DESCRIPTION:Northeast bluesman Albert Cummings makes a rare Northern California appearance March 17 at Sutter Creek Theatre. Doors at 7:30 show at 8 pm. Open seating\, beer and wine available. \nPress: \nIn the trajectory of watching great musicians develop\, there is no set timetable. Some appear full-blown right from the start\, and others can take a whole career to get to that elevated place. Albert Cummings arrived strong right at the beginning and has kept growing over a course of endless tours and nine previous albums\, right up to today with the release of the album TEN. It’s the kind of recording that shows exactly why all the accolades and excitement have been deserved. Now\, it’s an irrevocable truth that the musician has made his full-on breakthrough. And it comes at exactly the perfect time\, when the world is looking into what might be in store past the challenging experience of the pandemic for the last two years. Music\, being one of the world’s tried and true joys of life\, has always had a way of bringing healing and inspiration to listeners\, and at no time in recent decades has it been needed more than now. \nThis is a singer and guitarist who has played with many of the greatest players of the modern era\, and received the kind of awards and recognition that few others do. Raised in Massachusetts and self-taught on the banjo\, it was a 1987 concert by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble that opened Cummings to a new world of modern blues and inspired him to take up the guitar. It didn’t take long from there for him to find his way to the front of the pack. In fact\, Albert Cummings’ very first album FROM THE HEART (2003) was produced by Double Trouble’s Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon and included the group’s Reese Wynans on keyboards. That had not happened before Cummings’ release. \n“A barrage of guitar pyrotechnics that calls to mind a grand mix of the styles of past masters like Albert King\, Freddie King\, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix.” – Bluesprint Magazine \n“Though Albert always walks a fine line between rock and blues\, he demonstrates effortlessly that the blues makes everybody feel great.” – Bostonblues.com \n“The blues is best served up live\, with an enthusiastic audience and a killin’ band\, and that’s exactly what guitarist Albert Cummings does.” – Guitar Edge Magazine \nThe award winning historic Sutter Creek Theatre is an intimate 215 seat former silent film theatre with superb sound. Voted Best Indie Theatre mulitiple times (KCRA A-List).

DESCRIPTION:AC Myles plays Blues Sundays at 3 p.m. at Powerhouse Pub in Folsom. Cover: $10 \nPress: \nThe only son of production workers\, Myles grew up in the migrant worker neighborhoods of Central California\, spending his later teens and twenties touring with his own band. Finding his way to the San Francisco Bay Area & Los Angeles\, he played sideman to an array of acts and begun touring nationally and internationally. \nThe albums instrumentals ‘Sonder City’\, ‘Tunnel’\, & ‘Dirty Dark’ cross the spectrum of slick\, melodic\, big city guitar lines\, heavy riffs and electronic bass and drums. With “Transitory\,” Myles also brilliantly displays his songwriting abilities\, which crossover as effortlessly as some larger drawing acts wish to. \nThe catchy pop rock ‘Moment Match Flash’\, ‘3 Ways to Fall’ and southern rock slide guitar and radio ready chorus of ‘Other Side’\, reinforce that AC Myles is one of those performers\, that once seen and heard\, you never forget.
